About This Qualification

What is the Mechanical Fitter Occupational Certificate?

The Mechanical Fitter Occupational Certificate is a nationally recognised QCTO qualification at NQF Level 4. It is the standard qualification for anyone seeking to work as a professional mechanical fitter in South Africa — across manufacturing plants, mines, power stations, and heavy industry facilities.

At Phambili Village Campus, this qualification is delivered through our dual system block release model: combining digital learning, facilitated campus sessions, hands-on workshop training in our mechanical fitting lab, and structured workplace rotations with host employers in industry.

Mechanical fitters are the backbone of South Africa’s industrial economy. They keep machinery running, minimise costly downtime, and are responsible for the safe assembly and maintenance of the equipment that drives production across every major sector.

With South Africa’s continued investment in manufacturing, energy, and mining infrastructure, qualified mechanical fitters remain consistently in demand — making this one of the most secure and well-compensated artisan trades available.
