About This Qualification

What is the Electrician Occupational Certificate?

The Electrician Occupational Certificate is a nationally recognised QCTO qualification at NQF Level 4. It is the standard qualification for anyone seeking to work as a professional electrician in South Africa — whether in residential, commercial, or industrial settings.

At Phambili Village Campus, this qualification is delivered through our dual system block release model: combining self-paced digital learning, facilitated campus sessions, hands-on workshop training in our fully equipped electrical lab, and structured workplace rotations with host employers.

Graduates of this programme are eligible to register as an electrician with the Department of Employment and Labour and work towards their wireman’s licence — the key requirement for practising independently in South Africa.

South Africa faces a significant shortage of qualified electricians. From renewable energy installations to industrial maintenance and infrastructure development, the demand for skilled electrical professionals continues to grow across every sector of the economy.
